Surgical Oncology

  • 40 Bed Medical and Surgical Oncology Unit with 12 monitored beds

  • 2 Levels of Care: General & Intermediate

  • Recipient: The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Certificate of Approval with Commendation for the Teaching Hospital Cancer Program of Pitt County Memorial Hospital – approved through 2010

Model of Care:

  • 1 Nurse paired with 1 Care Partner

  • Charge Nurse

  • Chemotherapy/Admissions/Discharge Nurse

  • Staff Development Assistant

  • Interdisciplinary Team – Pharmacist, Discharge Planning Nurse, Social Worker, Dietitian, Recreation Therapist, Physical Therapist

  • Supply Clerk

Staffing/Scheduling:

  • 12-hour shifts available now

  • Flexible scheduling options, self-scheduling

  • All staff trained for both General & Intermediate Beds

Position Summary

  • Deliver direct, quality patient care, utilizing a basic clinical skill level and knowledge base. 
  • Develop, implements and evaluates/revises a plan of care.
  • Attends educational programs and staff orientation which promotes personal and professional development. 
  • Participate in Service Excellence Program.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state.
  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit requirements.
