Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Position Summary

The Stroke Center Coordinator ensures that the Stroke Center supports the missions, goals, and values of Vidant Medical Center and Vidant Health with a focus on planning, coordination, education, and ongoing evaluation of the care of the stroke patient across the continuum.


1.?? Responsibilities include planning, coordination, education, and ongoing evaluation of the stroke patient care continuum
2. Ensuring that the Stroke Center supports the missions, goals, and values of Vidant Medical Center and Vidant Health
3. Accountable for clinical compliance per the Joint Commission regulatory guidelines for Stroke Center certification and duties assigned to maintain compliance and will lead Vidant Medical Center to maintain status of Joint Commission accredited primary stroke center and will help advance VMC to achieve comprehensive stroke center certification.
4. Collaborates with Neuroscience Medical Director, Stroke Center Manager, Stroke Center Specialist, and other Vidant Medical Center personnel as appropriate to assure coordination of Stroke Center programs
5.?? Accountable for major data registry abstraction and entry to include Get with the Guidelines through AHA and the Stroke registry through the NC Stroke Care Collaborative and creates and implements appropriate action plans based on data with emphasis on trends, changes in activity, and data that impacts certification or clinical services
6. Serves as outreach liaison for stroke throughout Vidant Health region by serving as a liaison at the local, and state level with initiatives through the North Carolina Stroke Association, American Heart Association, etc. while promoting positive public relations and marketing initiatives for the Stroke Center program
7. Serves as a clinical resource for physicians and nurses participating in the care of stroke patients by providing stroke education to members of the health care team based on best practice guidelines
8. Assures development and routine review and revision of stroke center policies and procedures and order set revisions and updates
9. Actively participates and evaluates efficiency of Code Strokes
10. Actively participates in departmental and VMC organizational committees relevant to the Stroke Center program

Minimum Requirements

ADN required.?? BSN preferred

Registered Nurse in state of NC is required.

3 to 5 years of experience in a hospital setting is required, preferably in a stroke unit.

Other Information

This is a full-time position, 36 hours per week.

Time will be split between Stroke Coordinator and Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department
