Position Summary

  • Deliver direct, quality patient care, utilizing a basic clinical skill level and knowledge base.  Develop, implements and evaluates/revises a plan of care.
  • Attends educational programs and staff orientation which promotes personal and professional development.  Participate in Service Excellence Program.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state.

  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit requirements.


  • Requires 48 hours to be scheduled per six weeks within identified hours of unit need (see open shifts).

  • The salary for a SP RN Level II is $33 per hour.

  • Education, orientation, and staff meeting time is paid at the employee's alternate rate.

  • New agreements must be completed annually set by VH or as level or unit needs change.

  • Worked hours are obtained by bidding on the open shifts posted after schedule approval for core staff via FlexWork and open shifts posted. No prescheduling of hours.

  • SP RN Level II is required to work two weekend shifts per 6 weeks schedule, and if needed, will work off-shifts. Weekend shift begins at 3 PM on Friday through Monday at 7 AM.

  • SP RN Level II is required to work 2 hospital approved holiday shifts, one from Group I and one from Group II, per calendar year (Jan.- Dec). The only exception is to work two holidays from Group I, per calendar year (Jan - Dec)

The holiday must be scheduled through FlexWork. Time frame for determining the year for working holidays begins when the transfer to SP RN Level II status occurs (i.e. October to October, March to March).


  • Failure to work 48 hours, which includes the off shift/weekend shift requirements in a 6 weeks schedule for 2 consecutive schedules, as well as the failure to work the holiday requirements for 12 consecutive months, will result in return to a lower level status and/or termination.
