Located in the beautiful coastal town of Nags Head, NC. The Outer Banks Hospital offers high-quality care in a compassionate environment—it’s what we’re known for on the Outer Banks.

We opened in March 2002 as a joint venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Our facility includes eighteen acute care medical-surgical beds, two labor and delivery/recovery/post-partum beds, a level II nursery bed, a designated caesarian section room, three operating rooms, outpatient and diagnostic services along with a 24-hour emergency department.  Affiliated with The Outer Banks Hospital is The Outer Banks Medical Group (a Vidant Medical Group partner) which is comprised of eight physician practices.

Position Summary

Will work closely with the physicians and other providers in the day to day operation of the medical office. Primary responsibility will be to maintain good patient flow. To do this, the office nurse must be able to anticipate patient needs such as appropriate testing, etc. and to perform these test as needed. The office nurse must be able to work in partnership with other staff nurses such as clinical staff as well as be able to function alone and should be a staff shortage. The office nurse must be able to work with multiple providers simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the physician with patients, including:
    • performing initial patient assessment and planning nursing care
    • explaining preparations to the patients.
  • Assists physician in all special procedures, including minor surgery as required. Removes sutures, cleans wounds and applies dressings as directed by physician. Gives allergy shots, immunizations and medications prescribed by the doctor.
  • Performs lab work consisting of throat cultures, menatocrits, U/A stix and preparations for microscope. Washes and drys instruments used and prepare sterilization as required. Responsible for proper handling, storage and administration of medications stored in the office. Responsible for some patient education, completing physical forms and referrals.
  • Assists in keeping large volume and variety of medical records. Files lab reports, checks medical supplies, sees drug and other salespeople. Keeps exam and treatment rooms clean and properly stocked with supplies. Demonstrates the knowledge of skills to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient of the following development states: infant, child, adolescent, adult, elderly.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider status is required upon hire.
  • One or more years experience as an office nurse in a family or internal medicine practice.
  • Previous demonstrated nursing experience, preferably in a physician practice.
  • Must be willing to learn all aspects of the office operations, including computer input.

Preferred Requirements

  • AHA ACLS certification
