Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 900+ bed regional referral facility encompassing a Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including intensive and intermediate care, pediatrics, bariatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, pain management and psychiatry. Position Summary

  • Deliver direct, quality patient care, utilizing a basic clinical skill level and knowledge base.
  • Develop, implements and evaluates/revises a plan of care
  • Attends educational programs and staff orientation which promotes personal and professional development
  •  Participate in Service Excellence Program.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state.
  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit requirements.

39-Bed Flex Unit with mostly Intermediate Level Patients.

Primary Population:

Neurosciences Intermediate Unit provides support for the neuro-surgical and neuro-medicine populations. Patients in this setting may require frequent neurological assessments and collaborative evaluations to manage intermediate care status. Continuity of care is facilitated in this unit through ICU transition for optimization of clinical outcomes. The population will include but is not limited to:

  • Acute Stroke management (ischemic, hemorrhagic, SAH, etc.)
  • Post Neuro-surgical management (craniotomy, ventriculostomy, complex neuro-spine, Deep Brain Stimulation)
  • Seizure management (epilepsy, post-ictal and pseudo-seizures)
  • Demyelinating diseases of the brain (Multiple Sclerosis)
  • Demyelinating Polyneuropathies (Guillain-Barre)    

NSIU receives overflow of populations such as trauma and medical patients at times.  Nursing staff analyze cardiac rhythms on their patients; we are not monitored by monitor techs.  BLS is required upon hire; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) are required to be obtained within two years.

  • 1.0 FTE---work 3 12-hr shifts/week and 4 12-hr shifts/week, work 2 weekends out of 4-week period
  • 0.9 FTE ---work 3 12-shifts/week, work 2 weekends out of 4-week period
