Vidant Medical Center is looking for nurses to become a part of our Neuroscience Intensive Care Team.

Neuro Science Intensive Care Unit is a growing unit within the Neuro Science Service Line. NSICU is an 8 bed ICU with an evolving intensivist program that provides support for the critically ill neuro surgical and neuro medicine patient. Common diagnoses include, but are not limited to, severe sepsis, respiratory failure, acute renal failure, and multisystem organ failure. The patient population within NSICU will include but is not limited to:

  • Neuro Surgery Patients, including craniotomies for tumors, congenital defects, subdural hematoma and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Other surgeries include: spinal surgeries and cerebral shunts. Evolving advancements include deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's Disease.

  • Hemorrhagic and Ischemic stroke population requiring endovascular procedures, craniotomies and thrombolytic therapy.

  • Neuro Medicine patients including but not limited to: status epilepticus, guillan barre syndrome, myasthenia gravis.

Responsiblities

  • Deliver direct, quality patient care, utilizing a basic clinical skill level and knowledge base.

  • To provide proficient, age specific, professional nursing skills in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care for assigned patients in accordance with legal, hospital practice and departmental policies and procedures, established standards of nursing care and practice, and as defined by the state of North Carolina.

  • Participates in Quality Improvement Activities.

  • Attends educational programs and staff orientation which promotes personal and professional development.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN Licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina Licensure or meet requirements to hold RN Licensure in a compact state.

  • Minimum 6 months med-surg experience in a hospital setting (new graduates must apply to the Nurse Residency Program)
    BSN Preferred or ADN Degree

  • Current RN license is required.

  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) through the American Heart Association required.

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) is required.

  • NIHSS certification (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Preferred Requirements

  • BSN Preferred.

  • ICU Experience Preferred - 2 years or more.

  • Experience with heart monitors, arctic sun, ventilators, ICP monitors, EVD drains, hemodynamic monitoring and continuous renal replacement therapy preferred.

  • CCRN Certification preferred.

  • Full-time (36 Hours) - 12 hours shifts
