Primary Population:

The renal dialysis unit cares for those patients experiencing the following disease process:

  • End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
  • Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
  • Kidney transplant
  • Thrombotic thrombocytopenia purpura
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Autoimmune disorders (ex. Guillain-Barre Syndrome)

The Registered Nurse is a part of a multidisciplinary team providing direct patient care for individuals requiring dialysis or plasmapheresis.  The Hemodialysis Unit (HDU) patient population consist of infants to elderly adults.   Nurses are trained to perform hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and plasmapheresis treatments.  BLS is required on the date of hire.  ACLS is required 6 months after date of hire. 

Clinical ladder is an opportunity for staff to grow professionally and our team is committed to your success.  Obtaining a nephrology certification is encouraged as well as becoming a member of a professional organization.  HDU takes pride in our performance on quality indicators and patient success stories.  The HDU team is seeking individuals that embrace challenges and has a passion for the renal population.  The HDU team welcomes individuals that strive to provide high quality and safe patient care on daily basis.

Staffing/Scheduling

  • RN:patient ratio is based on patient acuity level but typically 1:2.                     
  • Flexible staffing options: Day Shift, Night Shift, Rotating Day/Night (Based on staff preference and unit needs)
  • Professional staff development opportunities that promote expert clinical and leadership pathways

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state.
  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit requirements.
