About the Outer Banks Hospital

The Outer Banks Hospital, located in Nags Head, North Carolina, is a full service critical access hospital offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital opened in March 2002 and is one of the newest hospitals in eastern North Carolina. The hospital's 21 private rooms are designed to meet the needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 250,000 in the summer season. The labor and delivery area consists of two labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum rooms, a five-bed nursery, a dedicated caesarean-section operating room and a triage room.


  • The RN will be responsible for administering chemotherapy while staffing in AMU.
  • The RN is responsible and accountable for providing and coordinating patient care. 
  • The RN identifies and addresses patient’s needs and priorities through assessment, planning and collaboration with other health care providers. 
  • The RN will execute physician orders and supervise the implementation of nursing interventions.
  • The RN functions as a patient advocate representing the patient’s interests when illness prevents an individual from being physically or emotionally able to express their own feelings or thoughts. 
  • The RN evaluates response to care through the outcomes of clinical results, patient satisfaction and acceptable cost.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state.

  • Requires at least two years of RN experience in an acute patient care settings.

  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider status is required upon hire. 

  • AHA ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire.

  • ONS or equivalent Chemotherapy Biotherapy course is required within a year of hire and must be current in order to administer chemotherapy in AMU.

Other Information

  • This is a PRN position, hours will be based on department needs.
  • There are no benefits with this position.
