Program Management

  • Utilizes principles of program management to effectively meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Integrates information from various national organizations setting quality and patient safety policy in order to assist system wide staff in understanding complexities.
  • Sets goals and objectives in alignment with the system's mission, vision, values and strategic plan.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of long and short range strategies to ensure achievement of desired outcomes.
  • Actively participates in local, state, and national professional organizations that impact quality improvement.

Process Improvement

  • Identifies quality data needs based on national trends and system needs and coordinates development of reports with
  • information systems/clinical information management.
  • Maintains knowledge base about fundamentals of performance improvement (PI).
  • Utilizes PI techniques to analyze data, identify system trends, and track progress.
  • Leads development of processes for triage, tracking and follow up of events.
  • Participates on committees and task forces to facilitate quality improvement at all levels of the organization.
  • Develops methods to share information and report data that are accurate, timely and understandable.


  • Plans, develops and coordinates quality educational programs based on identified system needs, regional priorities and national trends.
  • Plans, develops and coordinates training for facilitators, departments, entities, team leaders and other work groups to ensure effective methods for PI are utilized.
  • Plans, develops, and evaluates quality orientation and competency programs to ensure all staff achieve basic quality and patient safety competence.
  • Serves as quality program trainer for both the system and outside the organization as needed.
  • Maintains own knowledge base regarding clinical quality, public reporting, patient safety, and regulatory/accreditation requirements.


  • Creates a climate to maintain and facilitate open communication for the promotion of effective working relationships, the dissemination of quality information and shared responsibility for leadership for the quality improvement program.
  • Initiates and maintains routine contact with all areas of responsibility and makes recommendations for quality program improvement based on program assessment.
  • Initiates meetings and collaborative partnerships staff.
  • Serves as point of contact with quality partners.
  • Assists the medical leadership in development of consistent approaches to peer review and quality improvement.

Department Support

  • Communicates effectively to ensure the administrator/director is informed about important issues.
  • Coordinates departmental functions with other health system entities, departments, services, or community representatives on quality issues or projects.
  • Establishes timelines and deadlines with regards to the daily operations.
  • Organizes and prioritizes work to meet deadlines and complete tasks.
  • Promotes customer service and public relations to increase staff awareness of services provided by the Quality department.
  • Works with departments/services to become compliant as issues arise.
  • Assists as requested in supporting site visits from regulatory/certifying bodies.

Professional Development

  • Maintains own knowledge base to perform position responsibilities.
  • Within 3 years of initial employment in the department has obtained and/or maintains appropriate quality certification. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree required, Nursing, Allied Health, or Other Related Degrees (such as MHA, MBA with Healthcare Concentration)
  • Current NC RN licensure required
  • 2- 3 years experience in leadership, quality rep or management role required
  • 5 years clinical experience
  • Previous experience working in performance improvement, health care quality, lean experience, and experience working with teams that drive improvement for healthcare organizations.
