Located in the beautiful coastal town of Nags Head, NC. The Outer Banks Hospital offers high-quality care in a compassionate environment—it’s what we’re known for on the Outer Banks.

We opened in March 2002 as a joint venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Our facility includes eighteen acute care medical-surgical beds, two labor and delivery/recovery/post-partum beds, a level II nursery bed, a designated caesarian section room, three operating rooms, outpatient and diagnostic services along with a 24-hour emergency department. Affiliated with The Outer Banks Hospital is The Outer Banks Medical Group (a Vidant Medical Group partner) which is comprised of eight physician practices.

As a community hospital, we offer a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services. We meet the health care needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of 35,000 swells to 250,000 in the summer months.

  • The Quality Nurse Specialist under the direction of the Quality Director is responsible for analyzing and monitoring performance and outcomes data, using this information to design and implement improvement plans and support organizational goals for patient safety and quality. 

  • The Quality Nurse Specialist promotes our culture of safety by modeling behaviors that promote safety, monitoring safety indicators, engaging teams to support adoption of high reliability priniciples, and conducting investigation and causal analysis of safety events to prevent recurrence. 

  • The Quality Nurse Specialist supports the activities that ensure we remain current on healthcare regulations and standards, such as those required by Joint Commission and CMS. 

  • The Quality Nurse Specialist is responsible for coordinating FPPE/OPPE activities and developing and maintaining processes to support practitioner pratice reviews. 

  • The Quality Nurse Specialist must be self-directed for areas of assigned work, demonstrate good problem-solving skills, be able to collaborate with team members at all levels, is effective and efficient in managing time and completing work following through on all assignments until complete.

  • Contributes to or leads improvement teams.

  • Demonstrates behaviors that model and promote the mission, vision, and values of The Outer Banks Hospital.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate degree in Nursing.

  • 3-5 years experience in healthcare setting.

  • Experience in leading and/or facilitiating quality improvement activities.

  • Experience working with databases to retrieve information and create reports using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point).

  • Champion for Patient Safety.

  • Excellent Communication Skills.

  • Comfortable working with mutliple data sources.

  • Excellent time management skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and/or Master’s degree in applicable field, such as MSN, MPH, MPA, MaED, MS.

  • Prior experience in healthcare quality

  • Certification in specialty (i.e.: CPHQ, ASQ, CJCP, HACP, or CPPS) in 3 years and recertified every 2 years preferred

  • This is a full-time, 40  hours per week, position.

  • This position typically works Monday through Friday.
