Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 2 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.

Position Summary

Vidant Health is conducting a search for a Population Health Application Analyst.  The Population Health Application Analyst will support Vidant Health’s transformative model of care and will collaborate in a fast-paced team environment on high-priority, system-wide initiatives to impact the social, economic, and behavioral determinants of health. The successful candidate will have outstanding critical thinking, communication, and research skills, as well as experience in program design, implementation, and/or evaluation in a healthcare or work setting. This individual is responsible for the identification, analysis and interpretation of EMR, payor, and other data sources to support ongoing program needs; planning and implementing evaluation activities; and producing reports to summarize findings, support program decisions and meet deliverables. 


All Application Analysts are required to provide all core job duties for, but not limited to, the following applications to provide comprehensive tools for end users:  

  • Epic Electronic Medical Record, specifically EpicCare Ambulatory EMR, Healthy Planet, EpicCare Link, Care Everywhere, MyChart, SmartForms, Haiku/Canto, Advanced Care Management and associated Epic tools such as Registries, Data Link, Radar Dashboards, and Reporting Workbench 

  • Participate in enterprise initiatives to improve population health effectiveness and outcomes

  • Actively collaborates with clinical leadership to drive clinical action on population health opportunities

  • Maintains working knowledge of industry measure sets, including but not limited to MIPS, Meaningful Use, PQRS, PCMH, CPC and HEDIS

  • Act as a liaison with vendors and external partners to download beneficiary, utilization and quality data

  • Responsible for data collection, dashboards, and management of data delivery to groups, practices, providers and all other stakeholders

  • Perform quality assurance on all data sources to ensure accuracy as well as usefulness of the reporting elements

  • Handle integrated third party vendor content from IMO, Surescripts, and Krames Staywell or others as necessary

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Population Health, Computer Science, Information Systems or Healthcare related field or relevant work experience required

  • 2+ years of progressive experience in IT dealing with vendor application implementations and support or equivalent combination of education, training and experience

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to effectively support applications

  • Works independently with quantifiable and qualitative results

  • Ability to conduct analysis, document findings, draft plans, execute, monitor and follow up

Application Analyst II-IV must have progressive experience with healthcare vendor applications, specifically in large scale EMR implementations.    

Ambulatory clinical, population health management programs, patient centered care or quality improvement in a practice or hospital setting preferred for Application Analyst I & II and required for level III & IV.    


  • Application Analyst I & II required to complete and maintain one primary Epic Certification (eg. EpicCare Ambulatory, Healthy Planet, or EpicCare Link). Prior approval by manager for a secondary or more focused certification is required.

  • Application Analyst III & IV required to complete and maintain one primary Certification directly related to the application and at least one secondary Certification, Proficiency, or a minimum of two Epic Badges. Manager approval is required for all secondary certifications, proficiencies, and badges to ensure relevancy and applicability to the role.
