The Physical Therapy Assistant is a highly trained individual who under the supervision of the Licensed Physical Therapist, uses purposeful activity or interventions to promote health and achieve functional outcomes, by developing, improving, or restoring the highest level of independence of any individual who is limited by a physical injury or illness, a dysfunctional condition, a cognitive impairment, a psychosocial dysfunction, a mental illness, a developmental or learning disability or an adverse environmental condition.  The Physical Therapy Assistant provides physical therapy treatments, participates in discharge planning and provides patient/family education for patients whom the therapist assistant is qualified to treat, according to age and condition by virtue of training and orientation.  He/She will also participate in non-patient care activities directed at hospital quality improvement, professional growth and service aimed at meeting the hospitals mission and vision.  He/She is directly accountable to the manager for the quality of patient care delivered.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant by N. C. Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
  • Able to communicate effectively with co-workers and patients of varied backgrounds.
  • Possesses and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient.

Preferred Requirements

  • Additional training/certification as deemed necessary to practice in a specialty area as dictated by the patient’s age and condition.

Other Information

  • Position is PRN, shifts will vary to meet unit needs.
