Responsibilities

  • Performs routine pharmacy technician duties and responsibilities: Routes orders or requests to the correct area for processing (i.e. IV. Additives, Chemotherapy, Manufacturing, etc.).Performs daily cart update and delivery. Prepares individual doses of oral and injectable products. Compounds extemporaneous drug preparations according to approved manufacturing procedures. Restocks crash carts, emergency drug supplies and other medication kits and special boxes. Maintains the order and cleanliness of the pharmacy spaces. Checks the expiration dates and rotates drug inventories. Demonstrates an understanding of the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit. Orders stock for assigned areas through Dimensions 21.
  • Operates all computers, facsimile machines and other equipment and electronic devices: Maintains the operational capability of the facsimile equipment, printers, and Pyxis Connect scanners. Performs daily functions related to Robot-RX automated cart fill system, including restock, running reports, updates, etc. Performs routine loading, unloading and refilling functions on the Pyxis Automated Dispensing System. Performs routine trouble shooting of the equipment.
  • Processes prescriptions in the outpatient computer system and handles sales of these transactions. Processes charges and credits. Admits, transfers and discharges patients on the computer systems. Generates and prints standard reports. Processes stock orders.
  • Issues and returns to inventory controlled substances: Processes Pyxis, floorstock and non-formulary orders for controlled substances using the C2Safe computer system. Processes controlled drug returns. Delivers controlled substances to nursing units. Manages inventory control, reordering and other record keeping for controlled substances.
  • Train and instruct new employees during their probationary period: Provides feedback to his/her supervisor. Assists new employees in completing and documenting the elements of the pharmacy technician orientation manual. Assist new employee during their probationary period.
  • Supports the achievement of the goals and objectives of Pharmacy Department: Participates in continuing education programs specifically directed toward technician enrichment. Continually strives to build and maintain higher levels of competency in technician skills and responsibilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Participates on pharmacy staff committees. Prepare sterile products under the direction of a supervising pharmacist. 

Minimum Requirements

  • H.S. graduate or equivalent with 1 to 2 years of formal education or training required. 
  • Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board preferred. 
  • Must be registered with theNC Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of employment. Certified with the PTCB preferred.
  • ONE year of experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital pharmacy required
