We opened in March 2002 as a joint venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Our facility includes eighteen acute care medical-surgical beds, two labor and delivery/recovery/post-partum beds, a level II nursery bed, a designated caesarian section room, three operating rooms, outpatient and diagnostic services along with a 24-hour emergency department. Affiliated with The Outer Banks Hospital is The Outer Banks Medical Group (a Vidant Medical Group partner) which is comprised of eight physician practices.

Position Summary

Assists pharmacists with medication acquisition, preparation, repackaging, admixture, distribution, and inventory control activities.


  • Responsible for day-to-day purchasing/acquisition of pharmacy inventory and ensuring adequate supplies.
  • Demonstrates functional use of wholesaler computerized order systems.
  • Mixes chemotherapy and biologics only within the biological safety cabinet (BSC) using proper aseptic technique.
  • Uses the appropriate use of PPE when admixing chemotherapy and biologics.
  • Maintains accuracy in processing orders to ensure that all orders are processed and dispensed in a timely manner.
  • Follows all safety standards for handling chemotherapy and hazardous drugs.
  • Participates in medication related quality monitoring activities.

Minimum Requirements


  • Requires a high school diploma.  Certification as a Pharmacy Technician is required.


  • Prior hospital or community pharmacy experience preferred.  IV admixture experience preferred but not required.

  • This is a full-time, 32 hours per week, position.
  • This position is eligible for full-time benefits.
