Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Ahoskie, NC is ideally located an hour from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and two hours from Raleigh, Richmond, Williamsburg, and the beautiful Outer Banks of NC.   • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age, abilities and individual needs of the patient/client.
  • Accurately completes medication orders for checking by the pharmacist prior to dispensing.
  • Accurately prepares IV admixtures.
  • Participates in daily drug distribution and charging and crediting processes.
  • Participates in maintenance of inventory.
  • Maintains current Board of Pharmacy Registration and updates professional knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to excellence in patient/staff relations.
  • Completes monthly Unit Stock Inspections appropriately and timely as assigned.
  • Participates in In-service Education,  staff briefings and staff meetings and obtains 24 education contact hours per year from the Vidant Learning Center.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper handwashing when preparing and prepacking medications.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of all equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, disinfection, infection control and quality control standards.
  • Ensures that hours worked do not exceed scheduled hours unless approved by the Director.
  • Ensures that all medications leaving the pharmacy are checked by a pharmacist per state law.
  • Demonstrates effective computer skills in HealthSpan as related to Pharmacy Tech I duties and requirements.
  • Understands they are a vital part of the overall Pharmacy Safety plan and alerts the pharmacist if they feel something is incorrect regarding a medication or IV they are preparing for dispensing.
  • Uses department “scripts” to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone.
  • Uses “AIDET” to effectively reassure every patient, every interaction, every time.
  • As directed by the supervisor may have additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Actively participates in Staff Action Team.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Current Registration with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy prior to start of employment.

Preferred Requirements

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred.
  • Six (6) months or more experience with medication preferred.

Other Information

  • This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, including weekends and holidays.
