Position Summary

The Pharmacy Education Specialist collaborates with pharmacy department leadership to support staff education and training and provides clinical pharmacy services to internal medicine patients at Vidant Medical Center. This is a split-funded position with Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (CPHS) with the candidate holding a non-tenure track appointment with the College. The position includes pharmacotherapeutic instruction to CPHS students by directing the internal medicine clerkship at Vidant Medical Center (VMC).  Additional responsibilities for CPHS may include didactic lectures and committee involvement. This position will also include precepting of VMC PGY-1 residents on their Internal Medicine rotation.

Clinical responsibilities include participation in teaching rounds Monday – Friday, being an active member of the adult medicine teaching team(s) and contributing to the Internal Medicine Program and the VMC Department of Pharmacy Services. This position will be accountable for the safety and quality of pharmacy services for assigned population: providing proactive drug therapy recommendations, critical assessment of all medication orders, pharmacokinetics, therapeutic drug optimization, prevention of adverse events and providing drug information to physicians and other health care providers. There will be also opportunities for participation in clinical research, quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives in the pharmacy department.

Minimum Requirements

  • Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Must be a licensed Pharmacist in the state of NC within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of a PGY1 residency.
  • Completion of PGY2 residency in internal medicine, family medicine, or related academic training. Greater than 5 years' experience in relevant acute care setting may be considered as substitution for PGY2.

Preferred Requirements

  • Related Work Experience 1 to 3 years
  • Experience in acute care setting with adult medicine services
  • Pharmacy student and resident precepting experience preferred
  • Clinical outcomes research experience preferred
  • ACLS preferred
