We are currently recruiting for a full-time pharmacist to join our Operating Room (OR) Pharmacy team. This pharmacist will be an integral member of the Operating Room Pharmacy Satellite, working primarily day shift and every third weekend.   

Successful candidates will join a team of experienced pharmacists that ensure safe and effective use of medications by providing optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration and drug therapy monitoring.  The integrated electronic health record (EPIC) is utilized throughout the system for medication review and order verification. 

The OR Pharmacy Satellite utilizes Pyxis and Pyxis Anesthesia-A systems for medication inventory and EPIC Optime for managing patient phases of care.  The OR pharmacist will work directly with Operating Room personnel, including nurses, anesthesiologists, CRNAs and surgeons to ensure optimal patient care in the OR.  Duties include assisting with appropriate medication dosing, selection and dispensing; compounding sterile preparations; cost-containment initiatives; facilitating appropriate storage, dispensing, billing, and stocking of medications; order set development and maintenance.

  • Pharmacists at Vidant Medical Center are committed to the safe and effective use of medications through maximizing drug distribution and optimizing drug therapy outcomes; educating patients, providers, and ourselves on best practices; and fully integrating pharmacists into the continuum of care.
  • Pharmacists report directly to a designated Pharmacy Supervisor based on area of practice.

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. or PharmD in pharmacy is required.
  • Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in North Carolina within 60 days of hire date.
  • Maintains active NC pharmacy license and provides proof of renewal prior to December 31 annually.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association is required. 

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in an Operating Room Pharmacy Satellite and/or hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
