Position Summary

Decentralized Clinical Medicine Pharmacist

We are currently accepting applications for a pharmacist to join our decentralized clinical services team in medicine. 

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

Medicine pharmacists at VMC provide both clinical and distributive services to patients in a decentralized model. Responsibilities include participation in unit-based rounds, some participation in service based rounds, pharmacokinetic consults, pharmacotherapy optimization, adverse event prevention, cost-effective medication use, order verification with critical assessment, provision of drug information to staff, and education of pharmacy and medicine students and residents. Pharmacists enjoy strong collegial relationships with medicine and nursing colleagues, and cultivating and maintaining these relationships is required. Additionally, participation in departmental initiatives, teaching, and professional development are required.

Minimum Requirements

  • College degree plus other schooling. B.S. or PharmD in pharmacy is required
  • Must be Licensed in North Carolina prior to start date or within 30 days of hire
  • Hospital experience is preferred
  • Maintains active NC pharmacy license and provides proof of renewal prior to December 31 annually
  • BLS is required within 30 days of hire 
  • PGY1 residency and/or PGY2 residency experience strongly preferred
  • Internal Medicine, Pharmacotherapy, Cardiology, Infectious Disease or related disciplines preferred

Other Information

Full Time with benefits

This position is primarily 8 hour shifts, a mixture of first and second shifts, and every third weekend OR primarily second shift

Shift will be based on departmental needs 

  • Relocation allowance if needed (75 miles minimum)
