Responsibilities

  • Insure that liens have been filed to protect the hospital's interest and all other legal requests are satisfied on liability cases.
  • Mail appropriate estate letters to and copies of bill to the Clerk of Superior Court to remain on file until the estate closes.
  • Follow-up with phone calls and written correspondence to attorneys and other personal legal representatives for status, expected settlement date and overall disposition of case.
  • Long-term Worker's Compensation cases follow-up with attorneys or Industrial Commission as required.
  • Review all accounts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Appropriate proofs of claims will be filed with the Trustee.
  • Place all accounts in the correct financial class as not to violate the "automatic stay" provision.
  • Make sure all bankruptcy payments will be reviewed for accuracy and posted to maintain the integrity of the accounts.
  • Follow-up on patient accounts in legal status.
  • Review and initiate small claims court for appropriate accounts.
  • Fill out the correct forms and return them to the Clerk of Court to be served.
  • Appear at magistrates' court to represent the hospital's interest on appointed date for settlement or judgment.
  • Assist walk-in patients or legal representatives.
  • Initiate phone calls or handle incoming calls as necessary.
  • Performs in accordance with accepted procedure and responds to special requests by management in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures.
  • Uses tact and courtesy in all interactions including but not limited to staff, patients and payers.
  • Promotes a positive image and supports management in goals and objectives.
  • Handles inquiries and complaints discreetly and effectively. 

Minimum Requirements

  • High School plus 2 years of formal  education in Health Occupations, Business, criminal justice or related.
  • Legal Collections and/or Paralegal courses are helpful.
  • Minimum of  2 years  experience in an Attorney's office, Business Office or Doctor's office. Also, previous collecting experience, working with the public and knowledge of legal documents.
  • One additional years of related experience may be substituted for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of two years.
