Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Ahoskie, NC is ideally located an hour from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and two hours from Raleigh, Richmond, Williamsburg, and the beautiful Outer Banks of NC.   • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient/client.
  • Participates in life-support activities as required, responds to all Codes emergencies throughout the hospital.
  • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper handwashing between each patient.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Uses department “scripts” to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, and coworkers over the phone including “AIDET”.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of all equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, infection control and quality control standards.
  • Demonstrates effective computer skills for electronic charting, billing and reporting.
  • Participates in In-service Education, Patient Rounds/Conferences, PAS online training annually, complete and pass (grade of 75 or above) a Medical Terminology course.
  • Performs patient registration, pre-certification, pre-registrations and all functions ImageNow scanning.
  • Ensure POS collections goals are meet monthly by providing insurance benefits counseling per electronic coverage eligibility history to the patient.
    • Work data quality work queues within 3 working days.
    • Switchboard Responsibilities.Transfer calls to various departments when performing as the SW operator in the PBX. Announcing all Codes/emergencies as per policy.
    • Follows Federal, State and local Regulatory Compliance and HIPAA regulations.
    • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
    • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper hand washing techniques according to infection control policy.
    • Handles all telephone inquiries or routes them to the appropriate location.
    • Ability to us tactful conversation when dealing with an upset customer.
    • Possesses a pleasant working disposition with both internal and external customers.

    Cashiers Responsibilities:

    • Perform daily cash audit.
    • Perform daily task at the cashier desk.
    • As directed by the supervisor complete other duties as assigned including preceptorship.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma and computer experience.
  • Associate Degree or 2 years of related experience in a healthcare setting required.
  • One year of specifically applicable experience in a hospital, physician’s office, public health agency, insurance company, co-op or internship may be substituted for one year of the required post high school education with a maximum substitution of two years.
  • Switchboard and cashier experience preferred.

Other Information

  • This is a prn (on an as needed basis)  position. Must be able to work all shifts, including days, late evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Resume recommended.
