Vidant Edgecombe Hospital, formerly Heritage Hospital, is a full-service, 117-bed acute care facility where residents of Tarboro, Edgecombe county and surrounding communities receive a wide range of health services close to home. Responsibilities

  • The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is a highly trained individual who under the supervision of the Licensed Occupational Therapist as defined by the NC Board of Occupational Therapy, uses purposeful activity or interventions to promote health and achieve functional outcomes, by developing, improving, or restoring the highest level of independence of any individual who is limited by a physical injury or illness, a dysfunctional condition, a cognitive impairment, a psychosocial dysfunction, a mental illness, a developmental or learning disability or an adverse environmental condition.

  • The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant provides direct patient care through standardized evaluation, collaborating in the establishing of designing treatment plans, implementing, re evaluating and modifying goals and interventions as patients status improves and or changes. The treatment interventions are directed toward developing, improving, enhancing or restoring of the sensor motor, oral motor, perceptual, neuro motor, cognitive and psychosocial components of an individual and the overall impact they have on the patients daily living skills, work performance, play or leisure skills and educational performance. He/She is directly accountable to the manager for the quality of patient care delivered.

Minimum Requirements

  • Passed or eligible for the American Occupational Therapy Certification Exam.

  • Licensed or provisionally licensed by the State of North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.

  • Able to use the initials COTA or P-OTA after their signature.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and patients of varied backgrounds.

  • Additional training certification as deemed necessary to practice in a specialty area as dictated by patients age or condition and in specialty areas as dictated by the AOTA.

Preferred Requirements

  • One year inpatient and one year outpatient experience.

  • Shifts will vary depending on needs of the unit.
