Summary

About James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital

The James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center offers 197 beds and bassinets and an array of specialized services unequaled in eastern North Carolina. Our patient-and-family-centered care philosophy is more than a mantra; it's the guiding force of our efforts and has been for nearly 30 years. It is expressed in tangible ways throughout our recent 78,000-square-foot expansion.

We are excited to launch The Obstetrics RN Fellowship Program that will provide structured career development for the nurse interested in Labor & Delivery, Antepartum, and Mother/Baby nursing.

Women's Care at Vidant Health is dedicated to meeting the unique health needs of women. We realize that health changes as you age; that's why we provide care and information throughout all phases of life.  From the lowest risk pregnancy to high-risk maternal fetal medicine, Vidant Health provides a family centered approach to care during this important life experience of adding a new family member.  Our Obstetrics RN fellowship provides the opportunity to practice both at VMC and at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital.

Vidant Medical Center (VMC) specializes in care for pregnant women across the continuum of low risk Labor-Deliver-Recover- Postpartum (LDRP) to high risk maternal-fetal medicine, including high risk antepartum (before birth), labor and delivery, and postpartum (after birth) care. We are the regional referral center for high risk pregnancies covering 29 counties in eastern North Carolina and James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center has the only Level III neonatal intensive care unit in eastern North Carolina. In late 2011, we were designated a Baby-Friendly® Hospital. VMC delivers approximately 3700 babies annually. Vidant Medical Center proudly holds Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Magnet® recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and professional practice.

Women’s Care at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital provides women of Edgecombe county and surrounding counties with a community hospital dedicated to providing excellent care for lower risk obstetric patients Previously recognized by the Jackson Organization as the number one in the country for patient satisfaction, this outstanding achievement means that our services and care outranked all of the medium-sized hospitals surveyed throughout the country. Vidant Edgecombe Hospital also received the "Excellence Through Insight” Award for 2011 and 2012 “Overall Satisfaction Inpatient Maternity" from HealthStream.  Vidant Edgecombe delivers approximately 700 babies each year and is home to a small level II convalescent nursery.
