Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age and abilities of the patient/client.
  • Assists in the delivery of patient care according to policy and licensure.
  • Assists in the collection and reporting of patient data.
  • Assists with the admission, transport, transfer and discharge of patients
  • Records patient information in patient medical record and reports key findings to supervising nurse.
  • Continually seeks to improve quality of services provided and actively participates in unit-based as well as hospital and/or Vidant Health-based quality initiatives.
  • Demonstrates financial stewardship by carefully and responsibly assisting in the management of the financial well-being of our organization through submission and implementation of cost-saving ideas, avoidance of waste in supply use, adherence to staffing matrixes, effective time management and prioritization.
  • Performs unit clerical duties as assigned.
  • Performs unit maintenance tasks
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment.
  • Participates in life-support activities as required, responds to Code Blue emergencies.
  • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper handwashing according to infection control policy.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Uses department “scripts” to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of all equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, disinfection, infection control and quality control standards.
  • As directed by the supervisor may have additional responsibilities
  • Demonstrates effective computer skills for electronic charting and email communication.
  • Participates in In-service Education.
  • Actively participates on an Action Team of own choosing.
  • NA II performs additional NC Board of Nursing-approved job functions as designated.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Listed with the N.C. Division of Health Service Regulation as a Nursing Assistant I or II.
  • Nursing Assistant II must also maintain certification as required with the N.C. Board of Nursing.
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification upon hire and maintained during employment.
  • CPI training if home department is Emergency Department, Gero Psych or Adult Psych.

Other Information

  • This is PRN (as needed) position.Must be able to work all shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Resume recommended.
