Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 900+ bed regional referral facility encompassing a Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including intensive and intermediate care, pediatrics, bariatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology, surgery, pain management and psychiatry.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction and supervision of the licensed nurse, assists with providing direct patient care according to the job role and scope of practice.
  • Assists in the collection and reporting of data including: Vital Signs, PO intake and output, body weights and measurements.
  • Assists with the hygienic and comfort needs of the patient including complete baths, personal grooming, oral hygiene needs, and the maintenance of a clean patient environment.
  • Assists the patient with meeting nutritional needs determined by the licensed nurse such as setting up meal trays, feeding patients and providing nutritional supplements.
  •  Ensures a safe environment for patients, including proper use of bed rails, restraints, and other equipment.
  • Demonstrates ability to properly position, transfer, and ambulate patients, and safe use of lifts and scales.
  • Assists with repetitive tasks or procedures as deemed appropriate by the delegating nurse, which frequently reoccurs in the daily care of a patient.
  • Performs duties according to an established sequence of steps which involves little or no modification from one patient situation to another and which may be performed with a predictable outcome.
  • Assists in the admission, transportation and discharge of patients. Performs tasks as delegated in timely manner 
  • Participates in Quality Improvement Activities.
  • Participates in problem resolution activities and identifies opportunities for improvement to change behavior. Participates in data collection.
  •  Participates In Education as required. In collaboration with leadership, identifies own learning needs and participates inappropriate continuing education activities. Fulfills annual mandatory educational requirements. 
  • Orients new staff and students.
  •  Follows hospital and unit based policies and procedures. Supports the philosophy of Patient Care Services to provide quality patient care. Maintains familiarity with job description and legal implications of role.
  • Renews listing card 2 weeks prior to expiration date.
  •  Builds interpersonal relations and communications. Listens to the ideas, opinions, and feelings of others.
  • Gives and receives constructive feedback.
  • Recognizes and intervenes when personal conflicts have the potential to interfere with patient care or team relationships.
  • Works effectively with others in a team environment. Makes unit, department and hospital contributions.
  • Participates in goal-setting.
  •  Assists in cost-effective use of equipment and supplies. 

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Active NAI listing with the North Carolina Division of Facility Services 

Preferred Requirements

  • 1+ years prior experience in acute hospital
  • 1+ years prior experience in skilled care/nursing home
  • 1+ years prior experience in home health
