Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Position Summary

The Nursing Assistant performs specific responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse. Functions within the framework of the NAI listing granted by the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Practices within the philosophy and goals of patient care services.

Responsibilities

1. Participates in Quality Improvement (QI) Activities: Participates in problem solving resolution activities and identifies opportunities for improvement to change behavior. Participates in data collection. Employs safe practices, infection control, and fire and disaster regulations. Participates in cost savings activities.
2. Participates in Education: Attends and utilizes staff development programs and educational resources to meet unit objectives and/or individual objectives. Fulfills annual mandatory educational requirements. Participates in the orientation of new staff and students, as delegated by the supervising RN.
3. Follows hospital and unit based policies and procedures: Provides quality patient care. Maintains familiarity with job description and legal implications of role. Maintains active NAI licensure/certification.
4. Builds interpersonal relations and communications. Listens to the ideas, opinions, and feelings of others. Gives and receives constructive feedback. Recognizes and intervenes when personal conflicts have the potential to interfere with patient care or team relationships. Works effectively with others in a team environment. Demonstrates behaviors and attitudes that are respectful or others, and fosters enhanced communication and teamwork. Seeks help and utilizes chain of command appropriately.
5. Makes unit, department and hospital contributions: Participates in unit goal setting. Assists in cost-effective use of equipment and supplies.
6. Under the supervision of the licensed nurse, assists in providing direct patient care and completes delegated skills and task as ascribed by North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma is required.

NAI listing with NC Department of Health and Human Services is required.

Experience in a comparable facility can only be substituted for NA I course by successful completion of challenge exam acceptable to the NC Department of Health and Human Services is required.

Current American Heart Association CPR is required.

HeartSaver certification is required.

Preferred Requirements

-1+ years prior experience in acute hospital
-1+ years prior experience in skilled care/nursing home
-1+ years prior experience in home health

Other Information

This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week.  Includes weekends and holidays

Position requires to float to various hospital departments.
