We opened in March 2002 as a joint venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Our facility includes eighteen acute care medical-surgical beds, two labor and delivery/recovery/post-partum beds, a level II nursery bed, a designated caesarian section room, three operating rooms, outpatient and diagnostic services along with a 24-hour emergency department. Affiliated with The Outer Banks Hospital is The Outer Banks Medical Group (a Vidant Medical Group partner) which is comprised of eight physician practices.

As a community hospital, we offer a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services. We meet the health care needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of 35,000 swells to 250,000 in the summer months.

Position Summary

The Network Support Specialist provides quality customer services to all patients, patient’s family members, visitors, physicians and co-workers.   Provides technical support for hospital’s information system hardware. Acts as the liaison for the hospital with the Information Systems programmers and analyst.  Assisting all areas of the hospital with computer equipment problems.  


  • Assist all areas of the hospital by providing Information Services Support for computers, printers, phones, cell phones, applications and AV equipment.

  • Receives instructions and/or updates from systems’ programmers and analysts.

  • Maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs computer systems, hardware and computer peripherals.

  • Manages software distribution and installation with assistance from systems analysts and programmers when necessary. Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces hardware and software systems.

  • Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces hardware and software systems.

  • Maintains Multimedia Hardware.

  • Receives instructions and/or updates from systems’ programmers and analysts.

  • Printers: Scope of work includes installation, troubleshooting/diagnose, and repair.

  • Resolves problems associated with data transmission to system mainframe computer.

Minimum Requirements


Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent. Associates degree or higher in Information Systems or in a related field preferred.


Five to seven (5-7) years of experience in Information Systems or a related field required.  Education may be used in place of experience.  Healthcare experience is strongly preferred.

Comptia A+ and Network+ certification preferred.

Other Information

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position.
