  • Delivers care to an assigned group of neonates in accordance with established protocols and via a collaborative practice agreement with a supervising physician.
  • Participates in the education of the interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Collaborates and consults with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide continuity of care to patients.
  • Participates in research activities.
  • Elicits, records, and interprets the obstetrical, past medical, family and psycho-social history of the neonate's parents identifying risk factors and their implications for the infants present health status as well as the potential impact on future growth and development.
  • Performs a complete physical examination and gestational age assessment.
  • Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings on the physical examination, records these findings, and formulates an impression of the infants’ current state of health as well as expected outcome. 

Minimum Requirements

  • College Degree (4 yrs.) Nursing BSN - required.
  • College Degree plus other schooling. Successful completion of NCC approved Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Certificate or a Masters Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program.  Major: Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current unrestricted RN Licensure in state of North Carolina.
  • Licensure as Neonatal Nurse Practitioner by the NC Board of Nursing and the NC Medical Board.
  • NCC certification as Neonatal Nurse Clinician/Practitioner, including maintenance.
  • Minimum of two years current clinical experience in NICU nursing including responsibilities that promote leadership skills such as charge nurse experience, transport nurse experience and/or first line management experience. Evidence of participation in career development or professional development through use of literature, research and educational activities.
