Vidant Duplin Hospital is a 81-bed, not-for-profit hospital, located in Kenansville, North Carolina. The newly renovated, 15-bed ER serves approximately 22,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns.


  • The Mental Health Technician provides behavioral health care for patients across the adult life-span that is safe, cost-effective, and exemplary of health care quality standards. 
  • Under the direct supervision of an RN, a Mental Health Technician participates in patient assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation as a participant in the delivery of behavioral health services. 
  • As a member of a team of health care professionals, Mental Health Technicians provide care that is population specific for patients in his/her assigned unit or clinical setting(s), and grounded in mutually beneficial partnerships with patients and families. 
  • Mental Health Technicians behave in a manner consistent with the ethical standards of all health care professionals. 
  • Mental Health Technicians participate in the provision of behavioral health interventions, evaluation of treatment efficacy, goal-directed care planning, and patient education under the supervision of an RN. 
  • Mental Health Technicians are required to document in the electronic health record factual, accurate, complete, timely, legal information about the care they provide to each patient.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associates degree in a behavioral health-related field of study.
  • Current BLS certification upon hire and maintained during employment.
  • SECURE training.  If not current at time of hire, must complete and maintain within first 6 months of employment.

Preferred Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in a behavioral health-related field of study.
