Responsibilities

  • The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician performs various procedures in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, serology, microbiology, and blood bank to provide information for use in the diagnosis and treatment of hospital inpatients and outpatients. Reviews test results for abnormal or critical values for each age group as indicated.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experienced MT (no new grads) due to being a night position with decreased staffing and minimum supervision
  • Blood bank experience
  • Micro biology culture setup experience (no need to know how to read plates)
  • Stains and rapid test experience
  • Strong hematology experience
  • Solid chemistry background/experience
  • Ability to multi-task
  • The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician must be a graduate of an accredited school for Medical Laboratory Technicians OR a graduate of an accredited school of Medical Technology with a Bachelors degree in Medical Technology
  • Must have passed or is eligible to take the national board examination (ASCP).
  • Other routes to qualify include grandfathering through a governmental agency, HHS or HEW, or military training in clinical laboratory medicine or equivalent education and training.
