Position Summary

Medical Technologist are responsible for the performance of routine and automated test procedures in the area of assignment.?? They may be assigned to perform special procedures according to the discretion of the Laboratory Director, at which time they will be responsible directly to him/her.?? They are accountable for accurate results and the proper use of quality control materials.?? They must recognize the interdependency of tests and the conditions that effect test results.?? They correct their own errors and use and maintain a variety of complex instruments.?? They participate in continuing education programs, in service education and teaching of technical personnel and assigned students.?? They must maintain a high level of integrity.?? They must be available to rotate duties on all shifts including weekend rotation.

Minimum Requirements


  • High school diploma.
  • Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.

Physical Demands

  • Must be substance abuse free.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must have vision adequate for writing, typing, viewing computer screen and to distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to hear and understand conversations in a moderate tone, including telephone communication.
  • Must be able walk, bend and lift up to fifty pounds.
  • Must be able to drive a care and have a valid NC driver's license or transportation to and from work to be on time.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with unpleasant or chemical odors without adverse reaction.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.

Mental Demands

  • Must have the ability to understand instructions, reason and make judgments.
  • Must have the ability to understand the meaning of words, associate and use them effectively.
  • Must have ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
  • Must have ability to coordinate eyes and hand to fingers rapidly and skillfully.
  • Must be skilled at working and communicating effectively with others, possessing tact, discretion and diplomacy.
  • Must be able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Must be able to adapt to unpredictable changes in work load or priority.
  • Must be able to set priorities.

Working Conditions

  • Will require at least 8 hour shifts and 72-80 hours per pay period as standard.
  • Will be exposed to contagious diseases.
  • Will require standing for long periods of time.
  • Will be exposed to high noise levels.
  • Will work under stress at times.

Preferred Requirements

  • 2 years' experience as a generalist.
  • ASCP Certification.

Other Information

  • Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Primarily day shift. 
  • Required to rotate weekends/holidays/alternate shifts.
