About Vidant Duplin Hospital

Vidant Duplin Hospital is an 81-bed, not-for-profit hospital, located in Kenansville, North Carolina. The newly renovated, 15-bed ER serves approximately 22,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns


  • Prioritizes the ordered laboratory tests by assessing which tests are more critical and collecting, and processing them accordingly, based on the age and difficulty of being able to obtain a sample from the patient.
  • Assess patient’s current medical status to evaluate changes that require immediate medical intervention. Knows whom to call and what information to give with critical values and initiates proper Code Blue when indicated in the phlebotomy setting.
  • Participates in life-support activities as required, responds to trauma and other emergencies throughout the hospital when indicated.
  • Understands and abides by departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Obtains laboratory order prior to entering orders, or specimen collections, ensures appropriate clinical information is present on order and that appropriate test is ordered in accordance to patients needs.
  • Maintains a professional appearance by adhering to the departmental dress code and maintaining a stocked, clean work environment.
  • Demonstrates appropriate aseptic technique for specimen integrity, safety of patient, self and others during specimen collection and processing.
  • Charge for collection of specimens on all hospital collected outpatients while maintaining minimum operating expense by proper selection of collection and testing materials.

Minimum Requirements

  • ASCP/AMT registry eligible (MLT)(MT) with certification obtained within one year of hire date or eligibility date.
  • Current BLS, if not current at time of hire, must complete within first 6 months of employment and maintain.

Preferred Requirements

  • Active status with certifying agency recommended
