Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 2 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.

Position Summary

This Manager of Clinical Informatics is responsible in supporting health system clinical performance improvement initiatives that impact quality, safety, efficiency and clinical team member experience through continuous data analyses that align with organizational clinical priorities and that enable managers and front line staff to support these initiatives. The Manager of Clinical Informatics is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the clinical informatics team across care settings. This role works closely with Informatics leadership and IS Application managers to analyze technology needs to support clinicians in their practice, and translates those needs into tactical solutions. This position manages the enhancement process and reporting of metrics as related to enhancement activities. The Manager of Clinical Informatics provides oversight for at the elbow support to clinicians in their practice and reporting of trends and solutions implemented to optimize technology in clinical care. The Manager of Clinical Informatics works closely with the EHR training manager to deliver comprehensive informatics services across the organization.


  • Provides day to day management oversight and direction to clinical informatics team

  • Supports health system clinical performance improvement initiatives that impact quality, safety, efficiency and clinical team member experience. Continuously Identifies improvement opportunities that align with organizational clinical improvement priorities through data analyses that enable clinical managers and front line staff to support organizational clinical improvement initiatives.

  • Analyzes technology needs to support clinicians in their practice and use of clinical systems and translates these needs into tactical solutions

  • Work with IS, business, and clinical leaders to translate health system strategies into tactical informatics implementation plans that promote technology adoption and provide value/ROI

  • Works closely with IS Application Managers and the PMO to allocate and deploy informatics resources to support IS programs and projects.

  • Facilitates governance processes to support decision making related to the EHR. Oversees day to day management of informatics governance coordinators, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, projects, and enhancements.

  • Manages the informatics team to deliver at the elbow support to clinicians in both the ambulatory and inpatient settings.

  • Provides summary of key activities and trends, including routinely reporting metrics to key stakeholders.

  • Manages collection and analysis of metrics that relate to benefits realization and the return on investment of clinical information systems.

  • Manages informatics performance improvement initiatives as they relate to EHR optimization.

  • Travel:  Frequency and duration of travel is dependent on organizational priorities and the need for face-to-face interaction with operating unit leadership and staff. Travel to Vidant Health Community Hospitals, Physician Practices and off-site locations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.

  • Master's degree in business, healthcare administration, computer technology, information management or informatics highly desired. Current Registered Nurse license is required. 

  • Minimum of three (3) years of inpatient clinical nursing experience required Minimum of two (2) years experience in clinical/nursing informatics required

  • Minimum two (2) years in a leadership role within a health care organization with a strong operational background and proven track record of accomplishments in informatics within a large, complex, multi-location organization.

  • Informatics Experience with Epic highly desired

  • Obtains ANCC Nursing Informatics certification or CPHIMS certification within 12 months of hire
