Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Ahoskie, NC is ideally located an hour from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and two hours from Raleigh, Richmond, Williamsburg, and the beautiful Outer Banks of NC.   • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately with staff of varied skill levels and expertise.

  • Responsible for completing work orders issued by departments in a timely manner with proper documentation.

  • Communicates with the Lead Mechanic regarding status of work..

  • Perform daily inspections in each Mechanical room for proper equipment performance

  • Perform weekly inspections and testing of the emergency generators with all documentation of results.

  • Perform all Preventive maintenance procedures properly

  • Document all inspections and results

  • Initiate repairs on equipment found to be defective or not meeting specifications

  • Performs all fire fighting equipment inspections

  • Documents all inspection results

  • Initiate repairs on equipment found to be defective or not meeting specifications

  • Performs all duties related to new construction and renovation projects

  • Coordinates activities related construction/renovation with all affected departments and or personnel

  • Participates in disaster/emergency drills as required, responds to emergencies throughout the hospital.

  • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper handwashing per infection control policy.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information

  • Uses department “scripts” to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone

  • Demonstrates safe operation of  equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, disinfection, infection control and quality control standards

  • As directed by the supervisor may have additional responsibility as preceptor for students and/or new employees

  • Demonstrates effective computer skills for email, researching, ordering and report functions.

  • Participates in Inservice Education, and obtains education contact hours.

  • Actively participates on Action Team of own choosing 

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years experience in Maintenance Services or related area required.
  • Must have and maintain a Universal refrigerate Recovery license. 
  • Two additional years experience may substitute for required trade school.
  •  Additional Two year successful completion in trade or Vocational school program.

Other Information

  • 1 full-time position available., 2nd shift 3pm-11:30pm, Monday-Friday
  • Pay range $11.80-$21.12 per hour. Actual rate depends on experience.
