The James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center offers 197 beds and bassinets and an array of specialized services unequaled in eastern North Carolina. Our patient-and-family-centered care philosophy is more than a mantra; it's the guiding force of our efforts and has been for nearly 30 years. It is expressed in tangible ways throughout our recent 78,000-square-foot expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Contact inpatient postpartum breast-feeding mothers to assess breast-feeding initiation.
  • Provide more in-depth breast-feeding assistance as needs are identified to assure breast-feeding success.
  • In charge of Postpartum Breast-feeding Follow-up
  • Facilitate contact of al breast-feeding patients post-discharge via telephone to assess ongoing breast-feeding success.
  • Contact patients post-discharge via telephone who required more intensive breast-feeding assistance during their hospital stay to assess ongoing needs and offer consultation.
  • Provide telephone consultation to patients who call back after discharge for breast-feeding assistance/information.
  • Gather, compile and disseminate information on breast-feeding initiation and duration to identify areas of need for services.
  • Foster a collegial relationship with the Neonatal CNS to coordinate efforts.
  • Provide continuity of care for breast-feeding NICU families to assure initiation of measures to support breast-feeding.

Minimum Requirements

  • Nursing degree required (ADN/BSN).
  • Registered Nurse Licensure required.
  • International Board of Certified Lactation Consultant preferred.
