The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Position Summary

Under the Clinical Supervision of the Medical Director of the Clinical Laboratory and the overall supervision of the Laboratory Department Manager, Assistant Manager,?? Section Supervisors must maintain a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.?? Supervisors must perform clinical laboratory tests in all areas of the laboratory by standard operating policies and procedures.?? Supervisors must understand method principles; perform quality control testing & calibrations; performs preventive maintenance; reviews and analyzes results to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.?? Reviews test results for abnormal or critical values for each age group as indicated.?? All Laboratory employees must work according to rotation of schedule and the needs of the facility and department when deemed necessary by the laboratory manager.?? In addition, the Supervisor is responsible for maintaining his/her area to include quality control data and review, updates to procedures and policies, and inventory and cost control.?? As a member of a team of health care professionals, a Supervisor operates laboratory equipment accurately and efficiently, Demonstrates a commitment to excellence in patient/staff relations, Contributes to continuous quality improvement, Functions as a member of the patient care team, chooses best site collections from patients of all ages in a wide variety of clinical settings.?? Supervisor will behave in a manner consistent with the standards and ethics of all health care professionals.?? In addition to performing laboratory?? procedures, Supervisor are involved in clinical decision-making (such as initiating RRT for patient status changes, selection of best possible site for blood collections, and assessment of patients that have a need for central line placement to obtain a sample) Supervisors are required to document in the electronic medical record accurate, complete, orders when received from outpatients.


  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient/client.
  • Prioritize the ordered laboratory tests by assessing which tests are more critical and collecting, and processing them accordingly based on the age and difficulty of being able to obtain a sample from the patient. 
  • Assess patients current medical status to evaluate changes that require immediate medical intervention. Knows whom to call and what information to give with critical values and Initiates proper Code Blue when indicated in the phlebotomy setting. 
  • Participates in life-support activities as required, responds to Trauma and other emergencies throughout the hospital when indicated. 
  • Understands and abide by departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Obtains laboratory order prior to entering orders, or specimen collection, ensures appropriate clinical information is present on order and that appropriate test is ordered in accordance to patients needs. 
  • Maintains a professional appearance by adhering to the departmental dress code and maintaining a stocked, clean work environment.
  • Demonstrates appropriate aseptic technique for specimen integrity, and safety for patient, self and others during specimen collection and processing. 
  • Charge for collection of serum on all hospital collected outpatients while maintaining minimum operating expense by proper selection of collection and testing materials. 

Minimum Requirements

Associate Degree, Medical Laboratory Technology


Other Information

Full-time position, 40  hours per week, days.  Rotating weekends and holidays.
