The Vidant Medical Center Clinical Laboratory is an aggressively growing service line, utilizing technology and best practice to promote optimal patient outcomes. The Laboratory performs over 6 million tests annually by more than 200 staff.

Clinical Pathology Highlights

  • Prepares patient specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Processes patient requests and performs venipuncture, skin puncture, and arterial punctures on inpatients, outpatients, and outside account patients.
  • Monitor HIS and LIS computer systems.
  • Maintain properly documented records of activities.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
  • Serves as an information resource for nursing staff and medical staff regarding specimen requirements for laboratory testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates phlebotomy knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient for the following developmental stages: Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult and Elderly.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma plus less than 1 year of formal training or education in a medical field or computer science field.
  • 1 - 2 years of experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office outpatient clinic or other medical setting.

Other Information

  • Regular full-time position (40 hours week).

  • Hours:  2:30 pm - 11:00 pm, including every 4th weekend and rotate holidays (other hours as needed).  Training will occur during the day shift 9:30am - 6:00pm Monday-Friday.
