Position Summary

The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring communications initiatives to engage and align employees, physicians, and community audiences to the organization's mission, vision and goals that support internal brand building and alignment.

The Internal Communication Specialist works collaboratively with regional and local communications efforts to align regional and local public relations, reputation, issues and crisis management to achieve corporate communications objectives and goals.

The Internal Communication Specialist provides ongoing internal and external communications and counsel to executives, including speech writing, employee town hall presentations and external presentation messages; CEO weekly briefing, etc. May lead or direct video projects, internal or external blogs, podcasts, Web chats, Talk Radio or other digital and traditional communications projects. The Specialist is responsible for utilizing the organization's intranet as one broad communication channel.

The Internal Communication Specialist is responsible for enterprise wide corporate internal communications strategies to leverage multiple, appropriate internal communications vehicles including traditional, social and digital communication channels.

The Internal Communication Specialist serves as one of Vidant Health's Representatives to News Media.

  • Establishes and maintains productive relationships with the media while meeting their public information needs.

  • Researches, writes and edits press releases and fact sheets as related to specific health care disciplines, issues, facilities, etc.

  • Responds to media inquiries in conjunction with Vidant executive staff.

  • Provides support and assistance in the management of communications during crisis situations.

  • Coordinates participation of hospital employees, medical school faculty members and other health care personnel in television, radio and print interviews.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree or higher required

  • Major in Communications, Journalism, English or related field

  • Three to four years related experience required

  • Must be proficient in current software, digital tools, photography and other editing software

  • Must possess excellent writing and communication skills

  • Must have experience communicating in the digital and social media space, as well as with traditional media, and strong project management skills

  • Ability to self-manage and lead projects from conception to completion
