Position Summary

The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring communications initiatives to engage and align employees, physicians, and community audiences to the organization's mission, vision and goals; supports internal brand building and alignment. Responsible for executive communications support and proactive communication strategies to support strategic marketing plans. The position is required to work closely with organizational leaders, have the ability to self-manage and lead projects from conception to completion. Must have experience communicating in the digital and social media space, as well as with traditional media, and strong project management skills. Works in partnership with the customer relationship managers in leading strategy and project management.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Responsible for translating health system vision, strategic objectives and priorities for internal audiences (including managers, staff and physicians), and developing the message, content and methods to reach, engage and inspire employees and providers.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of targeted corporate communications in support of the system's communication and marketing strategic plans. Stay abreast of emerging trends and practices, recommending changes and enhancements to communication approach as needed.
  • Responsible for working collaboratively with regional and local communications efforts to align regional and local public relations, reputation, issues and crisis management to achieve corporate communications objectives and goals. Works independently with little direct guidance from manager.

Project Management

  • Responsible for managing multiple complex projects from inception to completion that cross business units in order to support align and engage employees, the network of clinical providers and external key stakeholder groups.
  • Plans and manages schedules for multiple tasks and responsible for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

Employee, Physician and Community Stakeholder Communications Management Strategy and Execution

  • Responsible for developing, planning, managing and implementing communications plans for high-level enterprise wide projects and initiatives.
  • Responsible for developing, planning, managing and implementing an enterprise wide corporate internal communications strategy to leverage multiple, appropriate internal communications vehicles including traditional, social and digital communication channels.
  • Strategies will increase employee engagement and active participation in promoting the organization's brand and key goals while building trust and awareness of organization's strategic initiatives and will appropriately target key segmented stakeholder groups (e.g. leadership, managers, physicians and employees in a variety of work settings).
  • Responsible for managing the development of internal communications for organization's executives. Provide ongoing internal and external communications and counsel to executives, including speech writing, employee town hall presentations and external presentation messages; CEO weekly briefing, etc. May lead or direct video projects, internal or external blogs, podcasts, Web chats, Talk Radio or other digital and traditional communications projects. Responsible for utilizing the organization's intranet as one broad communication channel.
  • Responsible for planning, managing, developing and implementing community stakeholder communications strategy to communicate key organizational messages to target community influencers.

Financial Responsibility

  • Responsible for identifying internal and external resources and requirements for successful execution of internal communications and communications to key external community stakeholders.

Serves as one of Vidant Health's Representatives to News Media

  • Establishes and maintains productive relationships with the media while meeting their public information needs.
  • Researches, writes and edits press releases and fact sheets as related to specific health care disciplines, issues, facilities, etc.
  • Responds to media inquiries in conjunction with Vidant executive staff.
  • Provides support and assistance in the management of communications during crisis situations.
  • Coordinates participation of hospital employees, medical school faculty members and other health care personnel in television, radio and print interviews.

Personal Accountability

  • Develops a deep understanding of the business of Vidant Health, keeping abreast of emerging trends; continuously evaluating these impacts and recommend changes to strategy as needed.
  • Demonstrates personal initiative to identify issues and recommend solutions with internal and external clients.
  • Practices strong consulting skills ensuring that concepts and deliverables are clearly stated and meet client objectives and Vidant brand standards.
  • Displays strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Acts in a professional manner in all interactions. Respects opinions of others, acting with integrity.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree or higher required
  • Major in Communications, Journalism, English or related field
  • Three to four years related experience required
  • Must be proficient in current software, digital tools, photography and other editing software
  • Must possess excellent writing and communication skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Related experience in a corporate setting preferred
