Responsibilities 

  • Verify insurance benefits using the electronic insurance eligibility application (Passport), Internet applications and/or telephone interactions with insurance carriers.
  • Verifies insurances (including authorizations numbers as appropriate) including Blue E (verifies BCBS of NC and Medicaid eligibility) and commercial insurances (via Internet).
  • Obtain authorizations, pre-authorizations/pre-certifications for applicable services.
  • Reviews all insurance coverage with patients/responsible parties on a regular basis for long-term therapies.
  • Meet/interface with all patients/hospital personnel in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrates professional, courteous phone etiquette.
  • Experience and knowledge of ICD-9 coding, CPT.
  • Complete and provide understanding/application of ICD-10 training. 

Minimum Requirements 

  • High School with 1 to 2 years of formal training/education.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (including Excel spreadsheet and word processing).
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience

Preferred Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Healthcare Management, Medical Office Technology, Business, Finance or related field.
