Position Summary

  • Prepares breastmilk and infant formula accurately according to established written formulations, following pre-established breastmilk and formula preparation procedures and adhering to quality control standards.
  • Uses clinical information system to update patient breastmilk and formula orders and to print labels and production lists.
  • Communicates with allied health care personnel regarding breastmilk and formula orders.
  • Calculates new formulations or standardized recipes and obtains verification of those formulations with the registered dietitian responsible for the nutritional care of that patient.
  • Communicates with patient care unit(s) regarding problems with formula orders, formula storage, or administration.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School plus 2 years or more of formal training.
  • Foodservice experience, patient care experience, lab/pharmacy experience.
  • May substitute one year of college education for one year of the required training with a maximum substitution of two years.
