Pharmacy Highlights

  • Prepare sterile products under the direction of a supervising pharmacist.
  • Interprets physician orders and enters order into the pharmacy profile database for later verification by pharmacist.
  • Prepares and maintains adequate supplies of several formulas of cardioplegia solutions and is responsible for laboratory analysis of each before the solution is dispensed.
  • Prepares anesthesia syringe trays and cardiac medications for intravenous drips for each cardiac surgery case.
  • Prepares complex total parenteral nutrition solutions daily which may contain as many as 15-20 drug additives adhering to appropriate procedures.
  • Prepares a variety of narcotic infusions and is familiar with procedures for documentation and inventory of controlled substances.
  • Familiar with and able to maintain proficiency with procedures related to investigational and research protocols.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of drugs and supplies.  Monitor expiration dates of products in stock.
  • Disinfects and tests equipment used in the admixture and compounding process.
  • Delivers admixtures to Nursing units and Departments.  Checks areas for discontinued or expired products.
  • Processes charges and credits using the Pharmacy medication profile database.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School plus 1 year but less than 2 years of formal training or education.
  • Minimum of 1 year pharmacy experience in either retail or hospital setting.
  • Must be registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of date of hire.

Preferred Requirements

  • Certification with PTCB preferred.
  • Experience in a sterile compounding or IV Additive preparation facility preferred.
  • Experience in IV Chemotherapy preparation a plus.

Other Information

  • Part-time vacancy (supplemental).
  • hours will vary week to week and are based on departmental needs, would include day, evenings and weekends.
