Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 900+ bed regional referral facility encompassing a Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including intensive and intermediate care, pediatrics, bariatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, pain management and psychiatry.


  • Ability to assimilate operations and build service line expertise. Effectively addresses human capital issues that support business success - anticipating and mitigating vs. reacting and responding. Consults with service lines as a proactive resource.
  • Researches and maintains strong knowledge of industry trends and best practices. Advances opportunities for leadership consideration, supports implementation and measurement. Partners with leaders of areas of expertise to develop human capital strategic plans specific to service line.
  • Understands and shares the business accountability while identifying HR opportunities for business success.
  • Leverages area of expertise resources and services to meet business needs. Appropriately accesses and/or delegates resources from/to areas of expertise.
  • Effectively utilizes human capital data to proactively identify trends, issues, problems; facilitates understanding of causes/needs; partners with areas of expertise and leadership to identify solutions; measures effectiveness of solutions.
  • Must balance direction from local leader and system leader. Accessible to/interacts with staff in assigned areas to promote engagement and support achievement of human capital plan goals.
  • Acts as strategic, trusted partner to assigned service lines. Functions as a fully integrated team member in the operations of assigned service lines. Acts as a primary point of HR contact for employees and managers in assigned service lines.
  • Provides comprehensive HR consultation, guidance and support. Analyzes trends, data and metrics in partnership with HR team to develop solutions, programs, and policies. Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues.
  • Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Partners with HR areas of expertise to deliver the right services to achieve desired outcome. Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Provides guidance and input on business restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning. Collaborates with Organizational Development on training and individual and team development needs with the client group and leadership/support of change management activities.
  • Advocates for Vidant Diversity/Inclusion Plan and ensures corresponding and supportive plans within assigned areas.  

Minimum Requirements

  • Four year college degree: Human Resources, Business, or related field is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in the resolution of complex HR issues is required. Human Resources Administration including working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including complex employee relations issues, compensation practices, diversity, performance management, and federal and state employment laws.
  • Excellent consulting and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrated success performing at the tactical and strategic level.
  • Strong interpersonal and political savvy with the ability to navigate complex situations.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, with particular ability to communicate complex and/or sensitive information in a clear, concise, diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
