Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Ahoskie, NC is ideally located an hour from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and two hours from Raleigh, Richmond, Williamsburg, and the beautiful Outer Banks of NC.   • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform his/her duties within the Food Services, as they pertain to ensuring a clean, safe environment.
  • Takes order from customer and cooks food requiring short preparation time following established recipes at all times.
  • Properly stores foods in designated areas following wrapping, dating, and rotation procedures.
  • Follows standardized recipes, portioning and presentation standards. Tastes completed meals to ensure quality.
  • Stores, labels and dates all food items according to policy.
  • Recommends to Production Manager proper utilization of leftover food products.
  • Prepares menus, as directed from Production Manager, for special events as may be requested by the Client.
  • Exhibits pleasant and cheerful demeanor and maintains a helpful attitude towards employees, physicians, patients and visitors.
  • Communicates any patient or customer related problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Transports garbage, and recyclable materials to assigned areas.
  • Complies with federal, state and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures, ensure department protocols are adhered to appropriately.
  • Identifies and utilizes cleaning chemicals following directions recommended by manufacturers and per MSDS sheets.
  • Participates and attends departmental meetings and staff development programs as appropriate.
  • Performs cashier function of change-making, accurate ring-up of sale, and making corrections to monetary errors to customers.
  • Completes all cash reports in an accurate and timely manner after each meal period.
  • Complies with department’s cash register and pricing methodology, with minimum overages and/or shortages.
  • Maintains cashier station and dining room in a clean and orderly condition at all times, including table tops, condiment station(s) and other assigned areas.
  • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper hand washing according to infection control guidelines.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee information.
  • As directed by the Manager may have additional responsibility as a preceptor/mentor to new employees.
  • Uses department and leader “scripts” to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of all equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, disinfection, infection control and quality control standards.
  • Demonstrates effective computer skills for electronic time and attendance and email as appropriate.
  • Actively participates on Action Team of own choosing.
  •  Other tasks may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  •  Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. 

Preferred Requirements

  • Food services experiences in industrial, school, healthcare setting preferred.

Other Information

  • This position is part-time, 20 hours per week.  Include days, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Pay range $8.40-$13.44/hour.  Actual rate depends on experience.
