Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Ahoskie, NC is ideally located an hour from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and two hours from Raleigh, Richmond, Williamsburg, and the beautiful Outer Banks of NC. Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform his/her duties within the EVS Department, as they pertain to ensuring a clean, safe environment.
  • Responsible for all housekeeping, cleaning throughout the Hospital, and responsible for maintaining EVS Housekeeping procedures, as well as ensuring that the Area Technician is up to date on any new and improved cleaning standards as they pertain to RCH, OSHA, and JACHO requirements. in order to maintain a safe environment and continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment for patients, public and staff, with interdepartmental collaboration to ensure satisfaction and quality control.
  • Management of resources and maintain a cost effective inventory.
  • Function as a member of the patient care team and assist with the community wellness events as necessary.
  • Ensures that staff initiatives are followed, and department protocols are adhered to appropriate.
  • Completes rounds with EVS Manager/Supervisor weekly.
  • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper handwashing according to infection control guidelines.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee information.
  • Uses department and leader “scripts” to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of all equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, disinfection, infection control and quality control standards.
  • Demonstrates effective computer skills for electronic time and attendance and email as appropriate.
  • Actively participates on Action Team of own choosing.
  • Maintains tile floors, no wax floors, on a regular basis.
  • Maintains carpet floors on a regular basis.
  • All Hospital floors, areas should be maintained spot mopped, dust mopped in the course of performing regular floor care.
  • Performs other functions of environmental service area technician (removal of trash, dirty linen, clean rooms), on an as needed basis.
  • Maintains and updates knowledge of skills completes any/all training as issued by the Dept. Manager and/or Supervisor.
  • Maintains departmental supplies and cleans equipment no less than once per week, as well as cleans the equipment room no less  than once per week.
  • Contributes to continuous quality improvement , by offering suggestions for service level and procedural improvement.
  • Maintains safe, clean, germ free environment for employees, visitors, and patients.
  • Participates in educational program, complete all RCH and Department mandatory competencies as directed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. 
  • At least six months of Floor Care in either Housekeeping, Hotel Cleaning, or Industrial Cleaning required. 

Other Information

  • Position is on an as needed basis.  This position is mostly evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Pay range $8.40-$13.44 per hour.  Actual rate depends on experience.
