Our Nurse Residency Program gives you the opportunity to choose from nearly any clinical area to find the best fit for your professional goals.  It refines and enhances the skills you already have by pairing you with a strong mentor to support your growth along the way.  After completing our 3-6 month new graduate orientation program, you'll have more practical experience and more confidence in your hands-on nursing skills..


As a Nurse Resident, you will:

  • Be a part of a cohort of other new graduate nurses.
  • Work side by side with a dedicated clinical coach throughout your orientation.
  • Participate in simulation laboratory experiences.
  • Receive mentorship from a nurse educator.
  • Attend cornerstone sessions designed to stimulate critical thinking skills.
  • Participate in classroom activities that address key clinical topics.
  • Participate in Nursing Councils and other professional groups within the organization.

Program Requirements

  • ADN or BSN required

  • North Carolina RN license must be active prior to start date.

  • 0-6 months of hospital RN experience.

  • Requires two-year commitment to Vidant Health. Commitment period begins at the beginning of your Residency orientation period. During this time you must remain in a Full-time position, you may not transfer to Part-time or supplemental pool.

  • You will work the schedule of your clinical coach(es) throughout orientation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate Degree is required
  • Bachelors Degree is preferred
  • 0 - 2 years experience is required
  • Current NC RN license or licensure to practice in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact state Health Care Provider is required
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support is required
