About Vidant Bertie Hospital

Vidant Bertie Hospital is a six-bed critial access state-of-the-art facility located in Windsor, North Carolina that provides surgical, emergency and diagnostic services, specialty clinics and primary care clinics. Our primary care physician practice operates the Vidant Family Medicine - Windsor and we have a telemedicine link with the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The Emergency Medicine Physicians see approximately 30 patients per day, as well a cover the 6 inpatient beds during nights and weekends. Our medical staff includes some of the finest primary care, internal medicine physicians and surgeons in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and guidance to staff of Facilities Services: orients new employees to maintenance policies and procedures; addresses all performance issues in an effective and timely manner; conducts on-the-job training as necessary; schedules staffing based on workload; conducts monthly departmental staff meetings; conducts performance evaluations on staff; and provides accurate and timely communication, recognition and coaching to staff.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair within area of expertise or certification: uses tools of the trade to operate, test, maintain and repair mechanical equipment; reads blueprints, specifications, manuals and other appropriate literature to interpret and implement requirements for achieveing desired results; operates test equipment, tools, vehicles and other sundry equipment to complete duties and tasks; and reviews work requests to detect any pattern of equipment or system failure and reviews/approves work orders for priority status.
  • Implements budget and performance improvement plan and purchases equipment: develops/controls departmental budget; accountable for operating within budgetary guidelines; and purchases supplies and materials for the operation of department.
  • Collaborates with all hospital departments to ensure their satisfaction with matters involving Facilities Services: initiates regular contact with all departments to assess their level of satisfaction; continuously monitors procedures for improvement opportunities, as well as surveys internal customers for quality standards; responds to all complaints, requests, and written communications from departments in a timely, appropriate manner; and documents results of complaint resolution.
  • Accountable for facility maintenance including preventive maintenance: coordinates and performs scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment, control systems and components to provide for system functionality and reliability; assists the safety committee in hospital inspections; assures all records are maintained and updated; responsible for annual air permitting of boilers and generators, including emissions inventory list; responsiblef or annual boiler operation inspection and permitting; and responsible for semi-annual medical gas piping and outlet inspection.
  • Supervises all new construction and renovation projects: assures all construction meets compliance with state and local regulations; and accountable for operating within budgetary guidelines established for construction project.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent with an additional two-year trade or vocational program in courses of electricity, mechanical engineering, blueprint reading or related field
  • 3 to 5 years related work experience
  • Must be licensed or certified by appropriate body in a building maintenance trade or must have five years progressive experience in working with boilers, heating and cooling systems, generators, plumbing or electrical systems
  • Must be familiar with information technology and terminology
  • Requires strong supervisory and planning skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of requirements by appropriate accreditation agencies, i.e., North Carolina Department of Health Services Regulation (DHSR) and The Joint Commission (TJC).

  • Full-time salaried position
  • Responsible for operations at Vidant Bertie Hospital (Windsor) and Vidant Chowan Hospital (Edenton). The two hospitals are approximately 20 miles apart.
