Position Summary

The ERAS Program Coordinator will oversee the development, implementation, and direction of comprehensive ERAS program. Manages comprehensive performance improvement processes. Monitors financial performance of the ERAS program in conjunction with the Administrator. Collaborates effectively with medical staff professionals.
Manages systems to achieve compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies. Serves as a consultant/resource. Increases awareness and knowledgebase of providers and communities through effective outreach, education, and prevention programs.


  1. Directs the development, implementation, and direction of a comprehensive ERAS program; manage and evaluate new program components. Maintains and disseminates an awareness and knowledge of future trends/opportunities in the care of surgical patients through identified best practice models.

  2. Develops in collaboration with medical staff leadership, executive staff, and administrative health system staff, a vision and strategic plan for the ERAS program and other integrated services aimed at awareness, prevention, treatment, and care delivery to surgical clients. Serves as a consultant and liaison to integrate and partner with complimentary ERAS program related services within Vidant Health Systems and throughout the region.

  3. Champion the vision and mission of the system within the region. Collaborates with EAHEC and hospital/school foundations to provide outreach programs.

  4.  Advocates for the analysis, initiation, and direction of education and processes to ensure staff and patients safety during the care of surgical patients. Collaborate with the Center for Learning and Performance to evaluate ongoing compliance or new educational components.

  5.  Acts as a liaison between the medical school, private practices, and hospital resources to assure exemplary comprehensive, cost-effective service delivery and build partnerships among complimentary service disciplines.

  6. Integrates, facilitates, and evaluates surgical and nonsurgical programs and operating processes among disciplines. Supports the analysis and appropriateness of surgical equipment throughout the hospital. Manages comprehensive performance improvement process; Implements, directs, participates, and evaluates ERAS benchmarking projects. Directs the program compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency.

  7. Plans, facilitates, and evaluates training of surgical patients and care givers. Indirectly directs and evaluates activities of clinical staff to assure activities are impacting outcome measures.

  8. Monitors financial performance of the ERAS program in conjunction with leadership. Facilitate contract processes, IPFs, and renewals.

  9. Collaborates effectively with medical staff professionals and maintains positive rapport. Demonstrates understanding and accurately represents/communicates between medical staff and leadership. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with ERAS programs throughout the system/nation. Serves as a consultant to other areas through committees, task forces, departmental meetings, staff meetings, and other forums.

  10. Increases awareness and knowledge base of providers and communities through effective outreach, education, and prevention programs. Represents Vidant Health on community coalitions, holds responsibility for community and professional awareness of the program, interacts with marketing to promote services, interacts with Corporate planning to analyze and monitor referral base, and conducts community, hospital, and provider needs assessments to ensure awareness and access to excellent clinical care.

Minimum Requirements

  • 4 year college degree in Nursing required.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Must have knowledge of clinical databases.

  • Must maintain active NC RN licensure.

  • More than 5 years of previous experience in a health care setting is necessary.

  • Work experience should come from Inpatient hospital experience with surgical population/patient.

  • Position also requires organized planning, strong communication skills, knowledge of the research process, and the ability

  • to facilitate multidisciplinary groups.

  • Knowledge of clinical databases is needed.
