We opened in March 2002 as a joint venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Our facility includes eighteen acute care medical-surgical beds, two labor and delivery/recovery/post-partum beds, a level II nursery bed, a designated caesarian section room, three operating rooms, outpatient and diagnostic services along with a 24-hour emergency department. Affiliated with The Outer Banks Hospital is The Outer Banks Medical Group (a Vidant Medical Group partner) which is comprised of eight physician practices.

As a community hospital, we offer a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services. We meet the health care needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of 35,000 swells to 250,000 in the summer months.

Position Summary 

Responsible for installing, and repairing electrical circuits, equipment, intercom systems, nurse call systems, lighting, wiring devices, electrical control systems, and other equipment or systems as assigned.  Duties include testing, maintain and repairing electrical distribution systems; performs scheduled maintenance, tests and repairs on 48-208 volt transformers and panel boards, motor starters, lighting contactors, feeder conduits and cable.  Installs, maintains and repairs electrical equipment and appliances; including but not limited to, fan motors, cooking equipment, HVAC equipment and controls.  Ensures that all work performed is in accordance with relevant codes.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education

    High school graduate or the equivalent required.

  • Certification/Licensure

    Must hold a NC Electrician License or from a reciprocal state.  Must obtain a NC License within 90 days of hire.   Strong preference for an Unlimited/Master License or equivalent.

  • Experience

    At a minimum must have one year of experience, strong preference for 3 to 5 years of experience.  Experience must consist of electrical construction in commercial, industrial and institutional wiring (480 volt 3 phase); some experience in maintenance of other systems.  Prior health care facility is preferred. 

Other Information

  • This position is full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • This position is eligible for full-time benefits.
  • This position will be required to be on call every 4th week, Monday to Sunday.
