Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

  • Continually seeks to improve quality of services provided and actively participates in unit-based as well as hospital and/or Vidant Health-based quality initiatives.

  • Demonstrates financial stewardship by carefully and responsibly assisting in the management of the financial well-being of our organization through submission and implementation of cost-saving ideas, avoidance of waste in supply use, adherence to staffing matrixes and effective time management and prioritization.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to patient population.

  • Assess the appropriateness of prescribed procedure by acquiring and evaluating clinical data.

  • Responsible for the clinical/technical direction and day-to-day operations of the department and performing echocardiography procedures.

  • Manages and monitors the departmental services (clinical), performance improvement and clinical outcomes.

  • Accountable for assisting with developing the departmental budget and managing expenses according to budget requirements.

  • Maintains current knowledge of VROA and Vidant Health policies and external agency regulations (EMTALA, JCAHO, DFS, HIPAA, etc.) and assures operational compliance with policies.

  • Participates in life-support activities as required.

  • Demonstrate use and application of the AIDET model for communication (every patient, every family, every time).

  • Provides/records all patient and family education in patient medical record.

  • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper handwashing between each patient.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.

  • Uses department “scripts” to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone.

  • Demonstrates safe operation of all equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, disinfection, infection control and quality control standards.

  • As directed by the supervisor may have additional responsibility.

  • Demonstrates effective computer skills for electronic charting, billing.

  • Participates in Inservice Education, Patient Rounds/Conferences and obtains 24 education contact hours per year.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing growth and self-development by independently seeking learning opportunities throughout employment at VROA.

  • Actively participates on Echocardiography Action Team of own choosing.

Minimum Requirements

  • Completion of Echocardiography program.

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer or eligible with RDCS credentialing obtained within 3 months from hire date or registry eligibility status.

  • Current BLS, if not current at time of hire, must complete within first 6 months of employment and maintain.

  • Advanced Life support certification, if not current at time of hire, must complete and maintain within first 6 months of employment.

Other Information

  • This is a prn (on an as needed basis) position. Must be able to work all shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Resume recommended.
