Position Summary

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counselor utilizes their expertise to support and counsel individuals through crisis intervention, brief solutions-focused counseling, referrals to treatment or other outside community resources, and ongoing follow-up for Vidant team members and their eligible family members.  

The EAP counselor provides orientations and well-being workshops to team members and their eligible family members. The counselor provides therapy and assessments via face-to-face and/or video conferencing. The EAP counselor will provide management and leadership consultation and coaching, and other EAP organizational interventions. The counselor is a trusted and compassionate resource for Vidant Health leadership and team members throughout the organization.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree, Licensed Major:  Psychology, Social Work, MFT or other mental health field
  • LMFT, LCMHC, LCSW, PhD licensure required
  • Two to three years’ experience in short-term counseling or therapy experience in a clinical mental health Recommended, not required, to be certified as a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP)
  • Regional travel to other entities as needed
  • Rotating on call as needed

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience providing counseling to children and couples

  • Experience providing substance abuse assessment and counseling

  • Public speaking skills and experience

  • Knowledge of and experience in the use of a variety of counseling modalities, knowledgeable in community resources; basic knowledge of human resources practices and policies

  • Experience using electronic medical record and maintaining accurate clinical records per licensure standards
