Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities. Position Summary

The Desktop Engineer is a recognized subject matter expert in the implementation, support and maintenance of Windows desktop operating systems. Provides support, implementation, integration and design services for Windows - based client and associated server systems across the enterprise. The engineer also addresses advanced customer support and service requests and acts as an escalation for a variety of client OS and desktop hardware engineering issues. The position, through research and collaboration with peers, determines the proper course of action for new hardware, service and application initiatives, implementing them as required by the business. The core infrastructure technology duties include building and maintaining desktop operating system images, testing OS updates and patches, and top-level support for enterprise-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Windows 7 client architecture through a strong understanding of industry best practices.
  • Understanding and experience developing or updating VB (Visual Basic) script, Microsoft Windows PowerShell, or other dynamic scripting language used to deploy OS and software.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for complex issues that appear to be related to the client operating system and/or any of the applications that are included in the standard client image.
  • Responsible for maintenance and development of Group Policies (GPO).
  • Participate in solution architecture support for projects and initiatives which integrate with the Windows client infrastructure.
  • Continual process improvement in Windows client environment.
  • Responsible for the definition, development, maintenance, support and documentation of the Windows client image.
  • Responsible for the definition, development, maintenance and documentation of client deployment process.
  • Participate in the development of policies, standards, procedures and processes for the reliable and secure operation of the Windows client environment.
  • Participate in the development of technical standards related to the secure, reliable implementation of new technologies within the Windows client environment.
  • Participate in the research of emerging Windows client based technologies and assess business value of implementation.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining desktop hardware standards, including Configuring, maintaining, and documenting the desktop environment.
  • Participate and aid in escalation of end user support.
  • Analyzes and coordinates system testing (i.e. validation, verification, UAT, etc.)
  • Solves system/desktop problems by analyzing the situation and recommending corrective or alternative actions.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience required
  • Microsoft MTA or MCSA certification desired
  • 5+ years related work experience
  • Experience with key Microsoft technologies like Microsoft Powershell, MDT, System Center, AppV, MedV, and office productivity tools.
